Borthwick Decorators has painted Newport-on-Tay homes since 1959 — grand Victorian merchant villas, stone terraces with Tay views, and riverside property at Wormit and Tayport. CHAS and SDF accredited, rated 4.9/5 from 175+ verified reviews.
Newport-on-Tay grew as a villa suburb for Dundee’s jute and shipping merchants, who built large stone houses along the south shore of the Tay to catch the view and the ferry. The result is some of the grandest Victorian residential stock in north Fife — substantial villas, stone terraces, and riverside property running west to Wormit and east to Tayport, much of it weather-facing across open water.
We handle interior and exterior decoration, sash-window repainting and period finishes for exactly this kind of property. Same foreman from first visit to final walk-round, daily clean-up, and a fixed quote before we start.

Learn moreNewport-on-Tay, with neighbouring Wormit and Tayport, forms a run of villa shore along the south bank of the Tay, looking across to Dundee. The Victorian merchants who built here wanted space, view and a statement, and the houses they left behind are large, detailed and exposed to the weather coming off the water.
This is exactly the period stock we have decorated since 1959 — CHAS and SDF accredited, with the sash window and heritage specialism these villas need, and the same foreman from quote to final inspection.

David responded to my enquIry immediately and his team were with us within days. The work was done very efficiently and to a high standard.
Yes — the merchant villas here were built with large sash-and-case windows worth looking after. Repainting them properly, inside and out, is part of most period jobs we do here.
Yes — it is much of what we do here. Tay-facing elevations are exposed, so we prepare hard and use breathable, durable systems built for the conditions.
We do — the whole villa shore from Wormit through Newport to Tayport is part of our regular run.
Our HQ is in Edinburgh and we have served Fife since 1959. The Newport shore is a regular run for us — no separate travel charge, and the quote is the price.
