Portobello has been Edinburgh’s seaside suburb since the early nineteenth century — the Victorian residential expansion that built out the High Street, Bath Street and Brunstane Road from the 1820s onward, with the Promenade facing the Firth of Forth giving the area its distinct seaside character.
